In the run up to this year’s Meffys we are profiling the finalists in the different categories.  Today its the turn of the Sector Award for Mobile Money, recognising the technology, apps and services that are driving ‘cashless’ content and commerce.

The winners will be announced on October 19th 2015 in at a Gala Dinner taking place in London,  hosted by the legendary musician, beat-boxer and musical mastermind, Beardyman.

Easy Taxi Pay (ET Pay) is a cashless payment solution that allows passengers to make mobile payment for a taxi ride with
their fingerprint, PIN or a simple tap on the screen.

To make use of the feature, the passenger simply has to register their credit card details inside the app and request a taxi selecting ET Pay as a payment method. The payment is applied by the driver upon the arrival at the destination and the passenger automatically receives a receipt summarizing trip details.   Easy Taxi also gives more than 100’000 drivers access to financial services, Easy Taxi-branded credit cards, automatic reimbursements and promotional content, all on an unprecedented scale. First introduced in Brazil, ET Pay now is available in 12 countries and 100+ cities.

Tanzania’s banking system reaches only about one in six Tanzanians. Airtel Tanzania has partnered with consumer finance firm afb to offer an innovative short-term micro-loan service, Airtel Timiza,powered by Mahindra Comviva’s mobiquity® Money, enabling customers to get credit for emergencies and small requirements. 

The loan is available for 7, 14, 21 or 28 days and can be applied for using Airtel Money Menu.  The credit is instantly credited into customers Airtel Money account and can be repaid via the same Airtel money account.  Unlike the conventional banks no documents are required for loan initiation. To qualify for a loan, the customer needs to have been on the Airtel network for more than 90 days, an active user of Airtel Money with no outstanding loan or negative payment behavior with afb. An initiation fee of 10% in charged on the loan amount along with a low interest rate of 0.5% per day.

The MyOrder app combines the three separate worlds of mobile services and payments: a wallet, a unique loyalty program and value added services, creating an ecosystem which allows the consumer to combine different services within the app: making a reservation for a parking spot when buying a ticket for a theatre for example.  

This fall alongside current payment methods like Paypal, iDEAL and credit cards, MyOrder will launch a new contactless payment method using HCE technology and Sidekick, a mobile loyalty platform which gives retailers the opportunity to reconnect with its customers.

Paytm is India’s largest mobile commerce platform.  Paytm Wallet is a Reserve Bank of India approved Semi Closed Wallet, and underpins its recharges and payments business, followed by its full fledged marketplace.  Paytm Wallet enables users to use their phones to pay for their shopping or services not just at Paytm, but at thousands of destinations outside Paytm. A consumer brand of India’s leading mobile internet company One97 Communications, Paytm is head-quartered in New Delhi, India.

In a developing country with over 100 per cent mobile penetration rate, yet less than 8 per cent owning an NFC enabled phone, Charge2Phone (C2P) is the Philippines’ first mobile, sticker-based and credit card-linked contactless NFC payment solution.

C2P is about frictionless transactions. It empowers customers to do low value, high frequency in-store purchases by just tapping the C2P sticker at any Visa PayWave terminals worldwide, eliminating the need to sign charge slips.  C2P online experience also enables the use of a mobile number instead of the usual 16-digit credit card number for Internet transactions and reduces the current 14 mandatory fields at the checkout page to just four with the user’s mobile number, six-digit one-time password (OTP) sent to the user’s mobile phone, four-digit mPIN, and the three-digit CVV found at the C2P sticker. Not only does this s streamline online purchases, it is also a security feature; the non-disclosure of the card number – tokenization and two-factor authentication in action.
